Remote site management is a term used
in private industry when defining methods and programs used to
remotely control mechanical and electronic devices and entities from
a central location utilizing a communication network.
In many instances these remote sites
are un-staffed and if a technician were required to perform a
critical task,
like operating an electrical breaker or turning a pump on or off, it
would require the employee to drive to that location before the task
could be accomplished. This additional task of driving to the
location can sometimes add long delays before the task can be
started
and in some cases, this delay is unacceptable because the task is an
extreme emergency or of an urgent nature.
